Telangana: 2,000-year-old stone bowl of Satavahana era found
A group of researchers has found a stone bowl belonging to the earlySatavahanaperiod, theTelugukings who ruled a vast area in the south, including the present states of Telangana andAndhra Pradesh.
The bowl with inscriptions in Prakrit written inBrahmialphabets was discovered during an excavation in Banswada town of Kamareddy district. The researchers, who discovered the bowl, dated the ancient utensil to 1st century BCE. The bowl was discovered on a mound adjacent to Adi Basaveswara temple, which is part of Kavi Manavallayya Matham of Bichkunda.
The stone bowl found at Borlam village near Banswada is the latest in a series of artefacts discovered from theManjirariver valley in Telangana. Most of the objects found so far from the valley belonged to the presence of the Satavahana regime.
The Satavahana kings were the first major rulers of the Deccan with trade links to Romans. They are considered as the first Andhra rulers.
