- Crop loan disbursal delayed due to PPB technicalities
- Disbursal of crop loans to aspiring farmers during the current kharif season is being delayed, thanks to technicalities relating to the pattadar passbooks (PPBs).
- The government had issued new PPBs to over 50 lakh farmers in recent weeks, but the details of the previous loans obtained by the farmers are not mentioned in the new passbooks.
- As a result, banks are said to be reluctant to disburse loans and insisting the farmers to obtain no-objection certificates from the banks in their vicinity for processing the fresh loan applications.
- The State, during the recent meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee, has pegged the total loans in agriculture portfolio at ₹58,063 crore, ₹22,380 crore higher than the last year.

- Bringing relief to parents beset by frequent and arbitrary increases in school fees, a government commission is likely to suggest a 10% yearly cap on the fee hike permissible by private, unaided schools, with provisions for penalties in case of violations.
- Although fixing school fees is the domain of state governments, in the absence of a standard fee policy for unaided schools, there has been a growing clamour for central regulations.
- India has 350,000 private, unaided schools — 24% of all schools — where 75 million children, or 38% of all students, study. Such schools do not receive any grant from the government and have to generate their own revenue for sustenance.
