IIT-Hyderabad steps up to preserve Dhokra crafts; digital repository to trace design evolution

 

men and encourage younger generations of the Ojha families to adapt to and safeguard their ancestral craft practices, the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) has conducted a workshop. The institute will also be creating a digital repository of the traditional artifacts to trace the design evolution of the Ojha craft.

 

The workshop focussed on training the younger generations of the Ojha community in the traditional Dhokra crafts under the supervision and training of the master craftsman who was chosen from the Ojha community.

The institute will be creating a digital repository of all the artifacts created in the workshop by using photogrammetry and 3D digital printing which will be useful for the researchers for further studies as well as for the visitors from all over the world to get insights into the cultural heritage of the Raj Gonds and associated communities and their traditional practices.

New Satellite Launched By China – Gaofen-11 03

 

China launched a new satellite titled “Gaofen-11 03” from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre on 20 November.

Highlights:

♦ The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre is in Shanxi’s northern region.

♦ A Long March-4B rocket was used to launch the satellite.

♦ It successfully entered the intended orbit.

♦ The satellite was launched on the 397th launch of the Long March series carrier rockets.

Gaofen

♦ Gaofen is a Chinese series of high-resolution Earth imaging satellites that are utilised for the government-sponsored China High-resolution Earth Observation System (CHEOS).

♦ Gaofen 1, the first satellite of the Gaofen series, was launched in 2013. Gaofen-11 03 is a Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) Earth observation satellite.

♦ It was successfully separated in the Sun-synchronous orbit.

 

NATIONAL

 

IPF Survey On Citizens Perception

 

The Indian Police Foundation (IPF) performed a civilian impression study. The Delhi Police was placed eighth among Indian states and union territories in the report.

Highlights:

 N Ramachandran, President and CEO of the IPF, said that they got answers from 1,61,192 persons in India.

 The Delhi Police were given points for their public sensitivity, decent behaviour, accessibility, accountability, and stringent conduct.

 The Delhi Police Force was placed fifth in terms of technology usage and tenth in terms of smart policing.

 On the Smart Policing List, states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Nagaland rated the lowest.

 In terms of responsible policing, public faith in the police, and integrity and corruption-free service, Bihar came in worst.

 

Delhi has committed to cleaning up the Yamuna by 2025.

 

Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, recently committed to entirely clean the Yamuna River by 2025.

Highlights:

 To clean the sacred river, he proposed a six-point action plan.

 He also pledged that by 2025, the Yamuna River will be safe to drink and bathe in.

 The Delhi government has also begun de-silting and repair of the sewage system.

Six Point Action Plan:

 Sewage Treatment– The government plans to build additional sewage treatment facilities.

 Existing wastewater treatment plants will have their capacity boosted.

 This initiative will raise sewage treatment capacity from 600 million gallons per day to 750-800 million gallons per day.

 The Yamuna is being treated in-situ with waste water from four main drains: Najafgarh, Badshahpur, Supplementary, and Ghazipur.

 The technology of old treatment facilities will be replaced and modernised. Industries that dump rubbish into the Yamuna will be closed down.

 

Tribal Affairs Ministry-CBSE launches online certificate course on Experiential Learning

 

Tribal Affairs Ministry and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) jointly launched online certificate course on Experiential Learning. This programme will be deployed for 350 educators across 6 states.

 

Experiential learning seeks to help teachers establish tribal students’ connect with their real-life experiences and own contexts.

Though, the tribal students studying in EMRS are first generation learners. But creativity is inherent amongst them.

Creativity, risk-taking and enterprise are some of the attributes which naturally get unleashed in their life-cycle.

The programme will be of great service for the development of tribal education, which is having exponential impact on the way EMRS schools emerge as model schools in near future.

 

Coal Ministry constitutes Sustainable Development Cell

 

Ministry of coal has constituted a “Sustainable Development Cell”, in line with the commitment of clean energy.

 

The Sustainable Development Cell was constituted in the backdrop of Prime Minister’s announcement on new climate targets at COP26 under ‘Panchamrit Strategy’.

Ministry emphasised on to put major thrust on Sustainable Development in coal mining, by taking care of the environmental and social impact of the mining.

Sustainable Development Cell (SDC)

 

Ministry of coal has established a full-fledged Sustainable Development Cell (SDC) to mentor, advice, and plan action of minimising adverse impact of mining.

 

It will also formulate future policy framework for environmental mitigation in Coal sector as well as Lignite sector in India.

 

Coal India Ltd. (CIL) and its subsidiaries along with NLC India Ltd., & Singareni Coal Company Ltd. (SCCL) has already started the extensive work.
